Adult Beginner Ballet Classes

Beginner Ballet Technique Class

Regular drop-in classes do not always provide the time or tailored support that enable us to fully understand how to execute movements in the most functional and effective way. It is easy as a Beginner to feel lost or unsure of what exactly you are meant to be doing. We are passionate about investing in adults in the same way schools do for children or pre-professionals; and we know this approach takes time, patience and support. These lessons really delve into the details and break down the essentials of ballet barre and key centre steps.

Our goal is to nurture and support dancers in developing a holistic and sustainable ballet practice. We aim to instill a deep understanding of ballet and your body; helping you to progress quickly and minimise the risk of injury or overuse. We explore practices to develop safe movement patterns and introduce you to key conditioning exercises. This is a chance for keen adult ballet dancers to develop a strong technical foundation by learning to engage the right muscles and practicing clean and controlled centre combinations and choreography. This class is a safe space to ask questions and receive feedback and corrections.

Thursdays, 8 - 9.15pm at WAC Arts Dance Studio

213 Haverstock Hill, (Dance Studio 1), Belsize Park, NW3 4Q

Beginner Ballet Variation Class

Sundays, 6.30 - 8pm at The Place Dance Studios

16 Flaxman Terrace, (Studio 4), Kings Cross, London, WC1H 9AT

These classes aim to help those completely new to ballet to understand more about the art form, how dance can be used in storytelling and how we can convey our emotions and narratives through our bodies. We provide high-quality and detailed instruction to develop your ballet knowledge, terminology and ability to execute key steps, thus laying a strong foundation for your ballet practice. But unlike most adult dance classes, we have a strong focus on individual expression and artistry too and believe this should be taught right from the beginning!

In addition to ballet barre and centre exercises, this lesson focuses on one variation (routine) every four weeks. The variation of the month always takes inspiration from an iconic, classical ballet such as Swan Lake or Nutcracker. Linking steps into longer sequences and learning choreography is a fantastic way for Beginner students to organically develop their ability to memorise and execute basic ballet combinations and help our students feel like they are dancing from day one!

Suitable for those with no prior experience of ballet and beginner/improver ballet students.
